EXPOSITION PERSONNELLE : MONUMENTS

The Cohle Gallery is proud to present the exhibition "Monuments" by emerging Brussels-based artist Ethel Coppieters, from October 10 to 20, 2024, in Paris.

In "Monuments", Ethel Coppieters continues her exploration of the female form, playing with presence and absence. The bodies in her figures appear suspended in time, both imposing and vanishing, creating a tension between the visible and the invisible.

With a pictorial approach that is both delicate and powerful, Ethel Coppieters unfolds a universe where the female body asserts itself in all its complexity.

By deconstructing the classical proportions of the female body, she elevates her subjects to the status of monuments, transcending traditional beauty standards to offer a vision that is both intimate and universal.

Drawing inspiration from the women of her generation and her daily life, Ethel creates scenes where faces fade away to reveal the essence of the body. The gradual erasure of these figures evokes memories that slowly fade, like a moment suspended in time. Through this series, Coppieters questions both permanence and fragility.

Born in Brussels in 1996, Ethel Coppieters graduated from the École de Recherche Graphique (ERG). Alongside her canvas work, she also explores the representation of women in public spaces through murals.
