Cohle Gallery is pleased to present "Regards Croisés" a collective exhibition showcasing the work of five international artists: Anthony Padilla, Anuk Rocha, Iryna Maksymova, Nina Baxter and Therese Mulgrew. Each artist, through their unique creations, offers an intimate perspective on themes of identity, nature, and subconscious reality, inviting viewers to deeply reflect on the diversity of human experiences.
Anthony Padilla (United States), a self-taught artist based in Brooklyn, NY, takes us on a journey through the chaotic elements of nature. Inspired by artists like Georgia O'Keefe and Wassily Kandinsky, Padilla creates works that are both a tribute to the majesty of nature and a meditation on the strange abstraction of our natural world.
Therese Mulgrew (United States), originally from Iowa, focuses on large-scale portraits and nostalgic still lifes. Her paintings explore vulnerability and intimacy, influenced by her mother and grandmother's art and enriched by her studies in New York.
Anuk Rocha (Germany) highlights the mystery and cultural diversity through her figurative paintings. Born in Germany to Bosnian parents, this artist uses her iconic 'silver eyes' to weave a narrative of multicultural identity, celebrating individuals who live by their own rules and reflecting her own journey of uprooted identity.
Iryna Maksymova (Ukraine), a Ukrainian figurative artist, uses her art to communicate subjects that personally touch her. Her naive works provide an innocent voice to global issues, exploring gender equality and interconnectedness while integrating traditional Ukrainian motifs into new and refreshing visual forms.
Londoner Nina Baxter (United Kingdom) shares moments of quiet euphoria and interpersonal relationships through her portraits and still lifes. After primarily working as an abstract painter, Baxter has recently reconnected with figurative painting, using oils to capture intimate moments of reflection and everyday pleasure.
