Cohle Gallery is pleased to announce "Coffee at Bedale Street," the duo exhibition featuring artists Rune Christensen (Denmark) and Joachim Lambrechts (Belgium). These two artists and friends have known each other for several years. The title of the show refers to the first time they met in London. First thing they did was having a coffee together. That happened to be in Bedale Street, not far from The London Bridge. From that first meeting a beautiful and artistic friendship has grew. « The rest is history… »
Rune Christensen (b. 1980) is a Danish artist. Rune’s work is inspired by the process of living: the constant movement that results in encounters between individuals, cultures and societies, encounters affecting everyone involved. Driven by ever-present wanderlust, Christensen paints as he travels. His unmistakable expression comes from a hotchpotch of impressions from our diverse world. Within Christensen’s works there is an intensely overwhelming, excited melting pot of scents, colours, gazes and people: each painting the culmination of a rich life. Having exhibited in many places including Denmark, Beirut, Sydney, London and Almaty in Kazakhstan, his works cross as many borders as the artist himself has done.
Joachim Lambrechts (born in 1986) is a renowned urban artist from Antwerp, Belgium. In 2001 he began his studies at an art school in Antwerp. Later he got very involved with the graffiti and street art scene in his home city and in 2004 he distanced himself from his academic education and left art school without graduating. In the years that followed, Joachim spent a lot of time experimenting with various approaches to graffiti and became quickly integrated into the Belgian street art scene. Since 2010, painting on canvas has been Joachim’s main focus in addition to creating street art across Europe. In contrast to his murals, Joachim never makes preliminary studies or sketches when he starts working on a canvas. Paradoxically, he feels freer within the four walls of his studio which is reflected in his paintings. They are the result of a more spontaneous process, and as such, possess a sense of urgency and innocence.
The exhibition will take place at the gallery from October 12 to 28, with an opening reception on Thursday, the 12th, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
